STREET ET AL

A sculpture of reclaimed river debris.

River Forge, 2023, Sculpture

The title refers both to the horseshoe, literally a forged object and to the relationship that is forged by restoring or pushing these objects back to the point when they were discarded. From the River Raisin are a horseshoe, a machinery part, and two forks cut from the handle of a pipe wrench.
The inside of the machine base is painted with blue phosphorescent paint and has a mirror as its base. The elements are intended to engage us in the collective work of turning back our actions. While the piece was on display over a period of two months at both the Adrian Center for the Arts and Hidden Lake Gardens, the varnish in the paint slowly ate away at the blue and rusted out the color.

Collaborative mural for children created with chalk and tempera paint

Kelly Mural (top), 16 x 20 feet, 2011
I designed a portrait template that was painted with white tempera on a black background on the street. 64 squares were then chalked in by Art at Your Feet participants.

Children’s Mural (above & right), 10 x 12 feet, 2012
I designed a free-form forest mural for kids attending Art at Your Feet who wanted to participate. Tree trunks were masked off with Kraft Paper and buckets of tempera paint were laid out in three strategic color-block areas. Chalk was also used with paint and after a full day, the paper was pulled off for the final reveal of a color-blocked forest (above).
